Cell BE is shorthand for Cell Broadband Engine Architecture, a multi-core microprocessor jointly developed by Sony, Toshiba, and IBM (STI). The first major commercial application of Cell BE is Sony PlayStation 3 game console. Toshiba has announced plans to incorporate Cell BE in high definition television sets, and IBM mainly uses it in its BladeCenter QS20 and upcoming QS21. There is also a great deal of interest in using it in Cell BE-based workstations, media-rich electronics devices, video and image processing systems, as well as several other emerging applications.
